Celebrating 40 Years of Impact
For 40 years, Habitat for Humanity Tucson has built strength, stability, and self-reliance through shelter.
Building homes, changing lives; none of what we’ve accomplished would have been possible without the support we have received from our generous donors, devoted volunteers and partner homeowners. We are so thankful for every donation, every HabiStore purchase, and every hour of volunteer time invested.
As we celebrate our past, we look forward to framing our future for the next 40 years as we build a Tucson community where everyone has a decent place to live.[mk_icon_box2 icon_size=”48″ icon=”mk-moon-home-9″ icon_color=”#00afd7″ icon_background_color=”#cccccc” title=”Building Homes. Changing Lives.” title_top_padding=”5″ title_bottom_padding=”15″][/mk_icon_box2]Housing plays a key role in positively influencing a family’s education, employment, and health opportunities. Since 1980, Habitat Tucson has built or renovated more than 430 homes and has enriched the lives of thousands of families through our affordable housing solutions.[mk_icon_box2 icon_size=”48″ icon=”mk-icon-group” icon_color=”#00afd7″ icon_background_color=”#cccccc” title=”Every hand makes a difference.” title_top_padding=”5″ title_bottom_padding=”5″][/mk_icon_box2]Volunteers are a critical part of Habitat Tucson’s success. Since 1980, thousands of amazing, hard-working community members have given their time to building a brighter future for Habitat families and meeting the affordable housing needs of the greater Tucson area.[mk_icon_box2 icon_size=”48″ icon=”mk-icon-recycle” icon_color=”#00afd7″ icon_background_color=”#cccccc” title=”Reduce, Reuse, Recycle” title_top_padding=”5″ title_bottom_padding=”5″][/mk_icon_box2]Since opening its doors in 2006, more than a 100,000 pounds of reusable material has been diverted from landfills thanks to donations made to Habitat for Humanity Tucson’s HabiStore. At the HabiStore, every donation and purchase helps us build and renovate homes with hard-working local families.
We love Tucson! … And we know you do too.
This year we will be breaking ground in a new neighborhood – Carters Court — and we need your help to transform this empty lot into a beautiful thriving neighborhood.
By investing in an affordable housing development, neighborhood and home repair projects, Habitat Tucson volunteers will work side-by-side with residents to contribute to a more stable and enhanced quality of life.
Donate TodayIn 1980, Habitat for Humanity Tucson was founded, the first affiliate in the Southwest. In 1982, we dedicated our first home on Plumer Ave. The simple 2-bedroom, one story home was the first home of the Diaz family, who paid an affordable mortgage for their home, until they paid it off in 2005.
Our slogan back then was “People Helping People.” Our founders hoped that building strong and stable homes would establish strong and stable neighborhoods, that thriving neighborhoods would be the cornerstone of thriving communities. They were right.
Over the next several decades, we built hundreds of houses in Corazon del Pueblo, Marana, Amado, Plumer, Desert Vista, Copper Vista, Minton Court, and more. The HabiStore opened its doors in 2006, and has saved over 5,300 tons from the landfill – that’s the equivalent of more than 1,700 dumpsters full of waste! In 2011, we joined nationwide neighborhood revitalization efforts to ensure more people have safe, stable places to call home. We started our first critical home repairs and A Brush With Kindness projects to work with residents to improve the quality of life in our neighborhoods.
As we celebrate our 40th year, we’ll break ground in our newest neighborhood, Carters Court, and raise the walls on our 450th house. Combine that with our home repair efforts, and that’s over 750 families whose lives have been changed forever. We worked with more than a dozen thriving neighborhoods and communities. Tens of thousands of volunteers and community leaders joined hands and hammers to ensure, for generations, that we don’t need to click our heels together to know what we’ve always known. That there’s no place like home!VIEW TIMELINERead Stories From Our Archives:
