The Director of Marketing and Communications is responsible for overseeing all public relations and marketing for Habitat for Humanity Tucson, establishing effective and engaging messages and visuals across diverse media and digital outlets. This position serves to further enhance Habitat for Humanity Tucson’s (HFHT) image and influence in the community and guides the overall marketing and communication strategy. The position involves working collaboratively with every department on a variety of marketing needs and bringing the organization’s general communications together in a strategic and cohesive effort. Specifically, they oversee all media relations, general marketing, materials generation and design, outreach efforts coordination, internal communications systems development, website management, annual report, newsletter production, and any other media and/or communications requested by management.

Job Duties Include:

· The primary purpose of this position is to strategically develop Habitat’s voice and create engaging content to promote and protect the Habitat brand through diverse channels

· Curate compelling stories and content that reflect the organization’s strategic priorities, messaging and image.

· Develop and foster relationships to ensure that the organization has a credible and visible presence in the broader community, and seek opportunities to increase program awareness, support and engagement.

· Act as the point of contact for the marketing and communications department inside and outside the organization.

· Coordinate with every HFHT department to develop strategic marketing plans and assist in meeting organizational goals annually through communication and marketing. Develop signage, digital strategies, outreach, communications, advertising, PR and Marketing.

· Develop marketing, direct mail & advertising budgets for Philanthropy ($2+million fundraising) and HabiStore ($2+million sales).

· Supervise and oversee all the work produced by the Communications Manager, and Marketing Interns to develop, produce and publish print and digital communications and campaigns including the annual report, appeal newsletters and direct mail, print and digital newsletters, social media posts and digital media.

· Oversee and ensure that all messaging and graphics enhance the mission of HFHT and are adhered to throughout the organization. Develop logos and graphics as needed to support the organizational efforts.

· Coordinate communication between National Office on brand campaigns and marketing materials.

· Develop strong relationships with media representatives. Support and oversee the timely development of external communication efforts and create pieces for the affiliate for external communications. Present and represent HFHT at events to ensure accurate and comprehensive media coverage.

· Collect and compile media impressions and sponsor mentions to measure the impact of our media relations program. Partner with the Development Staff in fulfilling sponsor benefits through media placement, sponsor banners, and other means, as needed.

· Develop an overall marketing outreach strategy for the affiliate, routinely measuring the effectiveness of the different advertising and promotional activities.

· Develop and maintain a budget for the Communications and Marketing efforts.

· Oversee the design and manage content for HFHT’s websites, including HabiStore e-commerce, analysing traffic to maximize exposure and to determine ROI of various campaigns. Oversee and organize HFHT’s photo library.

· Serve as ambassador within the social media community, executing a strategic posting/editorial schedule. Oversee all print communications needed to further the mission of HFHT. Manage the overall electronic communication schedule for the organization, including mail campaigns, e-newsletters, and social media interaction.

· Monitor newsfeeds, ratings websites and social media and recommend to management how to mitigate damage control on negative stories and comments that could hurt the Habitat brand.

· Oversee new homeowner and relevant interviews/photography in content development. · Pitch stories to targeted reporters and editors. Monitor external generic email and website forms.

· Oversee the purchasing and ordering of all HFHT branded items, including giveaways, volunteer gifts, t-shirts, and merchandise intended for sale.

· Other tasks as assigned.


Education and Experience:

B.S. Degree in Marketing, Communication, or Design and at least seven to ten years in a professional role in marketing and communications preferably in a non-profit.

Strong knowledge and understanding of current trends in digital media/social media preferred, including SEO and e-commerce.

Strong computer technology skills and experience with website administration, WordPress, and CSS.

Knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite, Microsoft Publisher and Raiser’s Edge preferred.

Experience with graphic design applications, photography, and video production.

Travel: 30% travel within Tucson. This includes visiting HabiStore and local job sites.

Overnight stays: Occasional travel to conferences and meetings.

License: Valid Arizona Driver’s license with clean driving record. Drug Screen: Habitat Tucson receives some Federal Funds and adheres to Drug Free Work Place policies including pre-employment drug screening.

This position supports flexibility through a hybrid work model, and requires occasional evening and weekend hours.

WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT TO WORK ON: As a representative of Habitat for Humanity Tucson, and in partnership with the Director of Philanthropy, identify and cultivate donor relationships to increase the impact of Habitat for Humanity in Southern Arizona. The vital role of the Major Gifts Manager includes three primary areas of responsibility:

1. Implement structure to support a three-year development plan focused on effective and efficient individual fundraising.

2. Build and develop a donor portfolio of 200-250 donors annually with the goal of retaining and increasing gifts of $1,000 or more through internal pipeline and networking.

3. Expand the number of new major donors by 5% each year.

You will carry out a long-term fundraising strategy focused on building momentum and stakeholder engagement to support growth. Your work will reflect the integration of the following:

Job Duties Include:

· Develop and implement new strategies to acquire, retain, and upgrade major gifts.

· As part of the Philanthropy Team, steward donors to encourage increased giving to Habitat Tucson. This includes establishing engagement plans to cultivate relationships, in person meetings, special events, written correspondence, and calling donors to thank them and develop relationships with them.

· Achieve agreed upon metrics for donors cultivated, stewarded, upgraded, renewed, and dollars raised.

· In collaboration with the Director of Philanthropy, execute donor recognition program. Thoughtfully connect donors to the mission, which may include sending personalized thank you notes to donors, sharing Habitat homeowner stories, personal invitationa to events or sending email communications.

· A minimum of 50% of time will be spent out of the office with donors. Engage donors through face-to-face meetings, stewardship opportunities such as build days, donor tours, and small gatherings designed for donor cultivation and appreciation.

· Enter relevant information into Raiser’s Edge; run queries, labels, and reports as needed from database.

· Partner with the Marketing Team to craft compelling content targeted for assigned donors as appropriate.

· In partnership with Volunteer and Marketing department, assist with events, utilizing them as opportunities to cultivate, steward and recognize donors.

· Exhibit a high level of personal and professional integrity, and ethics.

· Other duties as assigned.


Education and Experience:

Bachelor’s degree in an applicable field or equivalent experience

Three years’ experience in fundraising, and relationship building.

Five years’ experience in the not-for-profit environment, including interaction with boards and committee members, either as a volunteer, staff member or both preferred.

Experience with Microsoft Office products and familiarity with databases. Knowledge of Raiser’s Edge is preferred.

Working hours: The position is regarded as full time (40 hours a week). Work is usually performed between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Additional hours may be required to perform the job and may include some evenings and/ or weekends.


· Partner with the Director of Philanthropy to execute development plan to ensure maximum engagement of donors. Achieve clear, measurable goals that assist in retaining current donors and growing revenue.

· Collaborate with Foundation and Corporate Relations Manager to where appropriate to enhance giving from current and new investors.

· Work with Donor Relations Manager to implement a dynamic stewardship plan focused on measurable outcomes that increase donor engagement.

· Manage an active portfolio of 250 major gift donors.

· Ensure that every assigned donor is acknowledged, thanked and recognized in a timely way.

· Personally engage at least 3 donors or prospects per week through face-to-face visits, tours, virtual meetings, phone visits, dedications, and events. Focus on engaging donor passion and imparting impact through Habitat for Humanity Tucson.

· Provide 6 annual stewardship “touches” to all assigned donors.

· Increase major gift retention by 1% each year and revenue by 10% each year among assigned portfolio of donors.

· Report to Director of Philanthropy regarding progress on development plan objectives and recent successes. Engage key staff in building and managing major donor relationships
