Addressing the Growing Crisis of Critical Home Repair

Currently, 216 people are on our waiting list.

216 people in dire need of home repair.

Unfortunately, that list grows daily! Many seniors live on tight budgets. They have to make the difficult choice between fixing their aging homes or paying medical bills. And when their homes are desperately in need of home repair, their options are few and far between. Aging in place becomes harder and harder to achieve.

With the help of volunteers, Habitat Tucson combats the crisis every day through our critical home repair projects. Our largest population in need of assistance is seniors. Most are in need of roof repair and air conditioning (in the summer), and furnace or water heaters (in the winter). Habitat Tucson also recieves many requests for windows and plumbing.

Every day our team works to help those in need in our community. Our projects range from roof resheathing to plumbing repairs to installing new doors that can safely lock. One day our construction crew and volunteers help to repaint a chipping exterior, and the next move on to creating new accessible showers for disabled homeowners.

“The cost of living is increasing, but most people are on fixed incomes and cannot keep up with expenses. Some are barely surviving.”

Still, our waiting list grows.

Habitat’s Home Repair Specialist, Shianna Searcy, says, “The cost of living is increasing, but most people are on fixed incomes and cannot keep up with expenses. Some are barely surviving.”

The more hands on deck, the more we can do to make sure the homes in our community are safe, strong, and stable.

Think globally. Build locally.

You can make a difference!

We can’t do it alone. You can give families a chance to build a better life. Support those in need of critical home repairs.
