Bianca’s story

When Bianca Barraza’s close friend applied to the Habitat for Humanity Tucson homeownership program, she learned that owning a home is within reach — something that she never considered for herself prior.

“For me, it’s been a blessing that we’ve been approved. There’s no other way for me to get a home,” she explained. “I was so happy when I found out, that I started crying.”

Bianca currently lives in an apartment plagued by pest and mold issues. She has no backyard either. Her 7-year-old daughter had a frightening experience after getting lost in the complex while playing outside.

“Home is safety and security,” Bianca said. “Your home keeps you safe.”

Bianca is excited that her daughter, Benzia, will finally know what it’s like to be able to run around in her own backyard.

“It’s yours,” she told Benzia. “It’s your home.”

Bianca is excited to move in to her new house. She is happy that she’s been able to see the house being built, and to help other families build their own homes. Her daughter said she is proud of her mom for going to the worksite and building a house.

“It’s a wonderful experience…” she said “…seeing something built from the ground up.”
