To address the critical need for affordable housing in Southern Arizona and across the country, Habitat Tucson is joining “Home is the Key,” a national campaign by Habitat for Humanity International that highlights the critical need for decent, affordable shelter.
Why?
One in four households in the U.S. pays more than 30-percent of their income on housing. They may have difficulty affording necessities such as food, clothing or medical care.
In Tucson, 25-percent of families live at or below the poverty line – many of them renting their homes or dwellings.
Here are a few ways that you can get involved:
- Share the hashtag #HomeIsTheKey on your social media outlets. Nissan has generously pledged to donate $1 for every post with the hashtag – up to $250,000!
- Shop at the HabiStore. The sales and donations of gently-used and new furniture and appliances at the HabiStore help support the building of safe and affordable home in Tucson.
- Support home building and repair efforts by making a gift today. Your tax-deductible donation to Habitat Tucson will help open the doors to brighter futures for your neighbors. When we build strong and stable homes together, we are building a strong and stable community for all.
“We have seen firsthand how an affordable home can play a key role positively influencing education, health and financial opportunities for families,” said T. VanHook, Habitat Tucson CEO. “Decent shelter is something we all need to thrive. Many in Tucson still live in inadequate housing conditions. We invite our community to join us and help even more homeowners in need of a hand up.”
Since our founding in 1980, Habitat Tucson has helped more than 400 families build a safe and decent place to live. These families now have the strength, stability and self-reliance needed to build a better life.
People in our community and all over the world partner with Habitat for Humanity to build or improve a place to call home. What will you build? #HomeIsTheKey
