Habitat for Humanity Tucson Brings Clergy Together
to Provide “A Brush with Kindness”
Putting one’s faith into action is one of the founding principles of Habitat for Humanity. Each year, Habitat Tucson recognizes this by hosting a build day specifically for clergy and layperson of Tucson’s faith communities. It is both a celebration of the incredible amount of work that faith communities do and a call to those communities that there is still work to be done.
This year’s “Clergy Build” is focusing on Habitat’s latest expansion of mission, its Neighborhood Revitalization Initiative (NRI). The vision of NRI is to revitalize neighborhoods into vibrant, safe and thriving places to live for current and future residents through the hard work of engaged citizens and community partnerships. Under NRI, Habitat offers home preservation and rehabilitation services to help low-income and long-term homeowners maintain the dignity and livability of their homes.
The Clergy Build, scheduled for Tuesday, April 16, is taking the form of the NRI program called “A Brush with Kindness” (ABWK). ABWK is an exterior home preservation program which offers services such as painting, landscaping, yard clean-up, and minor fascia and roof repairs. Starting at 9:00 a.m., clergy and layperson from across Tucson will gather to repair a carport roof and paint a home in the Sunnyside neighborhood. The day will end with a home-cooked meal, prepared by a past ABWK homeowner participant who wants to “pay-it-forward” and show gratitude for the difference ABWK made in her life.
