High school sweethearts, Samuel and Alice have been married for over 50 years.[mk_image src=”https://habitattucson.org/wp-content/uploads/2019/11/alice-and-sam-jordan-crit-home-repair-11.13.19.png” image_size=”large”]A safe home is important to both Samuel and Alice so they can keep enjoying the home they love. Alice is living with Parkinson’s Disease and has developed issues with her balance. With a fear of falling, the replacement of their old deteriorating ramp was urgent. Samuel and Alice reached out to Habitat for Humanity Tucson and applied for A Brush With Kindness.[mk_image src=”https://habitattucson.org/wp-content/uploads/2019/11/volunteers-crit-home-repair-11.13.19.png” image_size=”large”]

“Habitat took the information they needed and got right on it! We were impressed with how rapidly they processed our application!” says Alice.

The new ramp that was installed by a crew of volunteers from Aldea Spiritual Community. In just one morning, the crew was able to remove the deteriorating ramp and install a strong, newly constructed one using safe, durable materials.

The ramp is a great relief for Alice. The ramp allows both Samuel and Alice to remain mobile and safe in their home. It even benefits their friends who visit that use walkers or are in a wheelchair! They both feel gratitude to the volunteers who are allowing them to continue their daily lives without worry of falling when entering or exiting their home.

“You can just see the volunteers are enjoying being with one another and working with each other! And they know what they are doing!  We love it!” says Samuel.[mk_image src=”https://habitattucson.org/wp-content/uploads/2019/11/ramp-crit-home-repair-11.13.19-.png” image_size=”large”]
