Abril’s Story
Thanks to her mother, all of Abril’s childhood memories are in one house growing up.
Abril’s mom was a single mother, striving to provide for her children. She applied to become a Habitat homeowner so that Abril and her siblings would have a strong and stable life.
Abril lifted her hammer in solidarity with future Habitat homeowners this year during Women Build. She is inspired to help others because of her mother’s journey to homeownership, and the influence that having a stable home thanks to Habitat had on her life.
Her mother went through the extensive process of becoming a homeowner to provide for her children, and that was not unnoticed by her daughter. Habitat for Humanity’s mission is to be able to help families achieve stability by providing them with tools, courses and knowledge to become successful and self-reliant homeowners.
As a single mother, Abril’s mother went through the extensive journey of classes and lengthy processes to be able to provide a stable home for her children, giving them the opportunity to grow up in a stronger and better environment. For Abril and her siblings, it made all the difference in the world.
Abril joined forces with all the amazing volunteers present on Women Build Day, to pass on the gift of a safe and decent Habitat home to others. Abril shared her inspiring story on the build day and was able to stand with her mom in front of a Habitat home built for another deserving family. She thanked her mom for everything. Habitat for Humanity holds a special place in Abril’s heart, and her empowering speech given at the Women Build event, gave hope to the new homeowners for their futures.
