7 items to donate when renovating
What are the byproducts of renovating your home? Prettier living spaces – sure.
The reality is that renovating creates a lot of scraps – scraps that you might be able to donate.
Here are 7 types of home improvement items that can be donated:
Used sinks and bathtubsÂ
Bulky bathroom fixtures fill up our local landfills but are some of the hottest selling items at the HabiStore. If you are thinking of upgrading your tub or bathroom sink area, let us know. We’ll pick up the old items – including bathroom cabinets and counters. Please make sure that they are not stained are are not chipped!
Cabinets
Remodeling a kitchen often means replacing kitchen cabinets. But for families that can’t afford an all-new set, the HabiStore is the place to go. So before you throw out your cabinets that are in good condition, remember to call the HabiStore and have them picked up!
Working appliances
You also can donate working appliances like stoves, refrigerators, microwaves and washing machines. They need to be clean and in good working order. The HabiStore will help these appliances find a new home.
Doors and windows
Internal and external doors can be used by someone else. The most useful doors are clean and undamaged, so look for any imperfections. The HabiStore also accepts glass windows and sliding glass doors. However, you must check the glass pieces for any cracks that could spread or compromise the material’s integrity.
Tiles, carpeting and wood flooring
Donate clean, undamaged flooring with no visible nails and screws. The HabiStore will also sell leftover boxes of tiles from home improvement projects. Unstained and new carpeting will also be accepted. Of course, any questions about what can and can’t be donated should be directed to the HabiStore.
Lighting
Working light fixtures are in high demand at the HabiStore. You can also donate switches, switch covers and leftover, new wiring to spare the landfills from these usable materials.
Door handles and cabinet knobs
Replacing door handles and knobs is an easy upgrade to any living space. These fixtures are often still in good condition and can be donated to the HabiStore. Door handles will be most useful when all the parts are kept together, so put all of the pieces in a bag before donating.
Donating home improvement materials keeps usable items out of the landfill. Furthermore, donating to the HabiStore helps fund the work of Habitat for Humanity Tucson through the sale of these great items.
How?
Each HabiStore sale supports home building and repair in Tucson. Your donations make affordable homeownership a reality for families. And we’ll even pick it up for you.
So what can be donated?
In general, the HabiStore accepts items that can be reused. These items must be in good condition and have all of the needed parts with it.
