Lourdes Babuca and her son Michael, 16, have been through a lot. From living in an abusive home, to a shelter in Phoenix and then transferring to another
shelter, they finally ended up in Tucson. Now they have been selected for a Habitat home of their own.
Lourdes and Michael currently share a one bedroom apartment; Michael lives in the den.
“Now I look back and it was worth all that pain. God has a lot for me, I think. All my efforts to set a good example really worked; that’s a very nice feeling for me,” said Lourdes.
Michael is a Junior in high school this year and will volunteer at the HabiStore all summer. He hopes to graduate early and enroll in Pima Community College’s mechanic program. He’s excited to have a garage of his own in which to practice.
