February 11, 2011 marks Gina’s ninth anniversary working as a network associate for Carondelet. She started as a registration clerk and now works as an Office Coordinator in the Diabetes Center, and she loves her job.
“I want to go to work. I love doing what I do. I’m pretty lucky,” she said with a huge smile.
In fact it was her work that brought her to Habitat.
“My boss, Donna, she’s an amazing woman. She’s been my mentor and she encouraged me to apply,” she said. “I work with an awesome group of women that help people.”
Gina has four kids: Jessica, 23, and Pedro, 19, who have already left the nest and Cassandra, 17, and Angela, 14, who will live with Gina in their new Habitat home.
“My kids are everything to me,” she said. “I always wanted to do this, buy a home. But I was scared.”
When asked what being approved for a Habitat home means to Gina, she said:
“It means everything, stability. I always wanted this and the kids always wanted this. They can’t stop talking about it. It’s amazing.”
