What I love about Habitat Tucson

Madison Owen partnered with Habitat through Beloved in the Desert, Episcopal Service Corps. The Episcopal Service Corps is a network of young adults passionate about serving others, promoting social justice, deepening spiritual awareness, discerning vocation, and living in community. [mk_divider style=”thin_solid” thin_single_color=”#00afd7″]

The organization embodies all of these values—serving others, living in community, promoting social justice, and more—by serving its community through innovative solutions to the crisis of affordable housing for every one of God’s children.

What I love about Habitat Tucson is their belief that EVERYONE deserves a safe and affordable place to live.

Especially during the COVID-19 pandemic, the affordable housing crisis has never been more evident. People are discovering it is becoming harder and harder to find safe places of shelter. Organizations like Habitat are so crucial to our communities right now.

Working with Habitat has taught me so much in just a matter of four short months.

As a Volunteer Resources Assistant, I have the occasional opportunity to paint some walls and shovel some dirt. But the most valuable thing that I have gained since I started in August of 2020 has been a new sense of community and compassion.Working alongside volunteers and homeowners, hearing their stories and how excited they are for their new homes—that has forever changed me. Habitat has shown me how powerful a group of people can be when they work together and believe in the same mission. I have seen an empty lot transform into a beautiful home, all through the incredible community that Habitat fosters.

As a person who works with volunteers, of my favorite things about Habitat Tucson its inclusivity! It is a place for everyone who believes in our mission and wants to volunteer.[mk_image src=”https://habitattucson.org/wp-content/uploads/2020/12/carters-11.2020_2694-scaled.jpg” image_size=”large”]

I have seen an empty lot transform into a beautiful home, all through the incredible community that Habitat fosters.

Some people love swinging a hammer at the construction site. Others have an interest or experience in sales and volunteer over at the HabiStore. Some enjoy talking with people, answering phone calls, and assisting with admin work at the front desk of our Mountain Office. And still others are called to partner with our homebuyers to teach them about homeownership and budgeting. Nothing makes me happier than helping a new volunteer find their niche here at Habitat and seeing them come back to help out again and again.

I cannot recommend highly enough the value of volunteering with Habitat! There is always work to do, and we would love to have you join our community!

It's Hammer Time!
