The Gieselmann Family

Alyson found Habitat through New Beginnings where she was living in recovery-based transitional housing with her daughter, Jennie.

“I’ve always lived in an apartment complex with case management,” she said. “This is our first time living alone, paying rent…But all this time in transitional living has made me a strong, independent woman. I’m okay with just me and Jennie being together.”

Alyson, who has been in recovery for four years herself, is a Certified Recovery Support Specialist with Compass Health Care. She currently lives in a manufactured home with Jennie, who will start Kindergarten.

“I want a future for Jennie, I want to give her stability,” she said. “I want to be settled in one place, where she’s comfortable.”

Alyson is well on her way to completing her mandatory 200 sweat equity hours. “I’m so wanting to help other people, I’m not even thinking about myself,” she said of how much she’s enjoyed volunteering.

“I feel like I’m part of a new family,” said Alyson of her partnership with Habitat Tucson. “Living in a community where everyone is
supportive, that’s what I like about Habitat.”
