Joseph & Priscilla Brown

Joseph and Pricilla have wanted to own a home for a very long time. They want their four children to know they have a safe and stable place to come back to, with the room to grow independent and self-reliant.

“We had looked into buying a house,” said Pricilla. “We just couldn’t do it on our own.”

Currently, the family of six resides in a rental home. They can’t modify the home to meet their needs, and they are constantly reminded that this is a place they do not own. That’s why they are so grateful to be a part of the Habitat for Humanity Tucson homeownership program.[mk_image src=”https://habitattucson.org/wp-content/uploads/2019/05/brown-family-web.jpg” image_size=”large” align=”center”]“On our own, we’re going in blind,” Pricilla explained about buying a home. “At Habitat, they explain everything to you and there’s trust there. It’s helping us. It really is a hand up. I trust Habitat to lead us in the right direction.”

In fact, the couple was so excited to be in the Habitat Tucson program that they jumped at the opportunity to start their sweat equity hours right away.

“I said, ‘What can I start? Where can I start?’” laughed Joseph. “We were excited, nervous and anxious all at once.”[mk_image src=”https://habitattucson.org/wp-content/uploads/2019/05/img_0050-1.jpg” image_size=”large” title=”Hammering the first nail into their future home!” align=”center”]Their excitement is mirrored by their four children – ages 4, 7, 8, and 12. They are looking forward to move, even though they don’t totally grasp the concept of ‘ownership.’

“They don’t really know that we’re going to building this home,” Pricilla laughed. “But I’m happy that we are going to share this experience with the kids. They’re going to see the effort that we put in to build them a home.”[mk_image src=”https://habitattucson.org/wp-content/uploads/2019/05/img_0021-1.jpg” image_size=”large” align=”center”]
