A Brush with Kindness is a home preservation program that partners with eligible homeowners to paint, landscape and complete minor exterior repairs so they can continue to live in safe, decent homes for years to come.
Each story and each family is unique, and our volunteers have the satisfaction of seeing the immediate benefit as they work side-by-side with the homeowners.
Women Build Week #1
After a car accident left her son disabled with a brain injury, a local mother could not afford to have her home painted. Volunteers from Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, Global Medical Brigade and Southern Arizona Home Builder’s Association worked hard to help this mom restore her pride in her home.
Women Build Week #2
Hundreds of local women joined together to complete multiple projects in our Copper Vista focus neighborhood on Women Build Day, May 9. One project helped a family in the neighborhood. The multigenerational home housed a grandfather, mother and father, and son.
In addition to taking care of the grandfather, mom works as a caretaker at a local senior center. Volunteers and the homeowners painted the home and replaced an aging fence, restoring safety and curb appeal. The family, grateful for the partnership, now advocates for change in the neighborhood.
Veteran Partner
A local Army veteran partnered with volunteers from St. Thomas More Catholic Newman Center and San Miguel High School to spruce up his Sunnyside-area home with newly painted trim and new hardware. All of our home repair programs have a special focus on helping veterans in need – we feel it is imperative to partner with those who have given so much to protect and preserve our freedom.
All in the Family
It’s always nice to be able to partner with someone who is already part of the family! Margie dedicates her time to a number of Tucson nonprofits, including working as a front desk volunteer at Habitat Tucson. She recently learned she qualified for the A Brush with Kindness program and applied. Volunteers with the Aldea Spiritual Community and the University of Arizona Biochemistry Club teamed up to replace rotted trim boards and paint the exterior of Margie’s home. Now our wonderful volunteer’s home has a fresh new look!
A Brush with Kindness is a great way for neighbors to help neighbors, and to build community throughout southern Arizona. There are two ways you can support A Brush with Kindness – through a financial donation or by volunteering side-by-side with homeowners in their neighborhood.
