Volunteers Help Veteran After Stroke

[mk_fancy_title color=”#c4d600″ size=”30″ txt_transform=”none” font_family=”none”]Everyone deserves a home that is safe, and our veterans are no exception[/mk_fancy_title]Tucson is a close community that supports its veterans and Habitat for Humanity Tucson shares these values as well. Habitat for Humanity wants to make it our goal to help deserving veterans and their families with home repairs. It is a great day when volunteers can come together and make home repairs happen! The Home Depot made the generous donation to improve the home of Marine Corps Veteran, Rico. During the 1980’s Rico’s military career had him stationed in California and as far as Japan. Rico has called his Tucson residence home since 2001. He shares his home with his mother whom he has cared for since her two knee replacement surgeries, and his dog. Like any home, over time repairs are needed. Home repair tasks were not possible for Rico to complete himself due to having suffered a stroke. His stroke left him unable to work and physically incapable to carry out the repairs himself.

This is when Habitat for Humanity Tucson’s Veteran Build steps in. We seek to support veterans who need a helping hand. Our volunteers are ready to address and repair the home’s issues in partnership with the Home Depot. Thanks to our amazing donors and the Home Depot, we were able to replace all single pane windows with dual pane and replace both sliding doors with dual pane sliding doors on Rico’s home. These changes made Rico’s home more energy efficient, especially during the hot Tucson summers. His electric bill will be much more affordable.

Something as simple as paint can make the world of a difference! The exterior of Rico’s home was painted by Ironwood Ridge High School (IRHS) National Honor Society students. Habitat for Humanity Tucson is excited when we have our local high school students involved with projects that benefit our community and our veterans.[mk_image_slideshow title=”IRHS National Honor Society students” images=”16117,16108,16119″ image_width=”750″]
